GP Mura is an international, intentional community up and running for 5 years. We started with 2 houses and have gradually grown to 9 and counting! We foster a space for locals and travelers alike from around the world to share ideas, work, play, taking inspiration from all the beauty Otaru has to offer. This is a space to take a break from the dog-eat-dog world and we welcome all sorts of guests such as:
Because we work to be eco-conscious and do our part in keeping this world green and beautiful. Our gardens are organic and we make our own compost. We re-insulate when renovating a house-not quite tocarbon zero, but a whole lot closer. We utilize passive & active solar where we can. We conserve energy and water.
We are in Japan and respect the culture and our neighbors, but our outlook is decidedly and intentionally international. We try to assimilate the best technologies and ways of doing things from wherever. We understand this is our one and only planet and aim to make the best of her.
In Japanese, mura means "village." While we think globally, this is the right size to act locally. The saying "it takes a village to raise a child" doesn't go far enough; it takes a village, lots of villages, to make a good society. So, we are engaging and growing, with the aim of spreading the idea and similar actual villages around the planet.
